ABOUT US
The Circle S Ranch is located in the rolling hills of the Heart of the Hill Country within Gillespie County, Kendall County and the Blanco ISD. Some of this property lies on the divide between the Pedernales and Blanco Rivers. Tributaries to the north lead into Williams Creek. Charles' Great Grandpa Otto Schumann bought this land in the late 1800's and obtained a Patent from the State of Texas in 1929 for the property which Charles now owns. Much of the surrounding property was at one time owned by Schumanns. This area is considered part of the Albert and Stonewall communities, which are primarily farm and ranch lands; and geographically, it lies close to Luckenbach, as well as Blanco. It is conveniently located within 10 to 15 minutes to Stonewall; 20 to 30 minutes drive to Fredericksburg, Johnson City, Blanco, and Luckenbach, and within 40 to 60 minutes drive to Kerrville, Spring Branch, Bulverde, Wimberley, New Braunfels, San Marcos, San Antonio, Round Mountain, Marble Falls, Llano, Dripping Springs, and Austin. It is approximately eight miles from the LBJ State and National Park in Stonewall.
This Ranch has a few large hills (1900 feet elevation) from which can be viewed miles of beautiful landscape looking across the surrounding valleys and hills. On some parts of the ranch land, there is natural rock on the surface of the ground, rocks varying in size, shape and color from area to area. Large oak trees, redbud trees, walnut trees, wild cherry trees and cedar trees adorn the countryside. Water seeps from the hills from natural springs. Two large ponds on the Ranch have been stocked with catfish, bass and perch. A third pond is under development. As is all of Central Texas, this is rugged, unique and beautiful country which has abundant wildlife.
Circle S Ranch consists of around 400 acres, and is presently owned and operated by Charles O. Schumann, his wife and two boys. Circle S Ranch was so named because the "S" with the circle "O" around it was Charles' dad's (Otto Schumann's) cattle brand, which is now registered to Charles. Charles' and Mary Ann's sons, Scott and Bret, live on the ranch and help their dad to carry on their small cattle business which has continued for more than a hundred years in this family through several generations. In addition to cattle, Charles and Mary Ann have begun a small horse breeding operation with a few paint mares, and they have within the past year purchased a AQHA and PHBA Palomino colt which will be a stallion standing at their stables in 2009.
It is their goal to add additional Quarter Horses to their
breeding operation in the near future. Scott and Bret, also each have numerous horses, which they have raised and trained, and they are getting involved in the horse breeding business with their parents. They are together as a family striving to upgrade the quality of their horses and offer beautiful, well-bred and gentle natured horses to the public as halter, all-around pleasure and/or performance horses.
